Finding a farmer or forester willing
to talk about what they do has never been a problem. Our dilemma was finding a
way to get the public, agencies, legislators, and other decision makers out to
the farms or into the woods. That’s when the “Legislative AG and Forestry Tour”
was born.
Those who attend the tour spend their
time "on the ground" visiting small businesses related to Oregon's natural
resources, getting to know the small business owners and their families,
discussing the pros and cons of new programs, watching the farmer or forester at
work, and learning what has to be done to be in compliance with federal and
state regulations. It also gives the natural resource community a chance to
work with the various agencies and regulators to solve problems they might be
experiencing.
The tour has grown through the
years. Depending on the area of the tour, it is either an all day event, or a
two-day event. The "Legislative AG and Forestry Tour" is also a vehicle to
showcase new practices and conservation methods farmers and foresters are
implementing. We try to highlight issues of importance and show our guests
that farmers, ranchers and foresters are good stewards of the land.
